Erin graduated from college in May 2008 and was surprised at the lack of resources for college students about what the transition into the "real world" is really like. In an effort to share her experience as a recent college graduate and create a resource for college students and recent grads, she created College Grad Lessons.

How To Find A Place To Live After College

On Sunday I posted about four different housing options for after college. I thought it would be useful to share some of the resources I used when looking for a place to live after college. Here are my top three recommendations:

  1. CRAIGSLIST! - A great resource, especially if you plan to live in a city. When I was apartment hunting in the DC area, I used it to find a roommate after I picked out an apartment I liked. There are postings for apartments, houses, rooms, roommates and more. It’s also a great resource for determining price ranges for different area
  2. Local Web Sites - Community newspaper sites or local forums are a good method for finding housing or a room in a smaller area. I used this approach when I moved for a web design job in Southern Maryland a few months ago and found a great group of young professionals to live with in a single family home.
  3. Apartments.com - This is a great site that contains apartment listings for all over the United States. I found it particularly useful when I was comparing the cost of living in different cities when I was a college senior.

Please post with any other suggestions or stories about how you found a place to live!
