Erin graduated from college in May 2008 and was surprised at the lack of resources for college students about what the transition into the "real world" is really like. In an effort to share her experience as a recent college graduate and create a resource for college students and recent grads, she created College Grad Lessons.

How To Find A Place To Live After College

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

On Sunday I posted about four different housing options for after college. I thought it would be useful to share some of the resources I used when looking for a place to live after college. Here are my top three recommendations:

  1. CRAIGSLIST! - A great resource, especially if you plan to live in a city. When I was apartment hunting in the DC area, I used it to find a roommate after I picked out an apartment I liked. There are postings for apartments, houses, rooms, roommates and more. It’s also a great resource for determining price ranges for different area (more…)

Gift Ideas For A College Grad’s New Home

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Do you need a gift idea for a recent college grad that has a new home? Here are some ideas:

  1. New Dishes - They don’t have to be expensive, but college grads often lack a full set of matching dishes. Plastic dishes, pint glasses from bars and silverware from their college’s dining hall will gladly be traded in for something new.
  2. Framed Photos or Art - College grads may have furniture for their new home, but chances are the walls are bare or look more like a dorm room than a first apartment or home. Frame some photos or find art that would mean something special to the grad.
  3. Restaurant or Movie Theater Gift Card - An entry-level salary might not leave room in the budget for a night out. A gift card to their favorite place to eat or somewhere else fun will make sure they enjoy their weekend after working hard.

Post a comment with you favorite gift idea for college graduates living on their own. I look forward to hearing your suggestions!
